Penang 2015

A 2-day family getaway in Penang (31 May-2 June).

PART 1: Jalan-jalan

As-salamu'alaikum.

We arrived at the Penang International Airport via Malindo Air at 7:20AM. Rented a Perodua Viva for our 2-day stay. While waiting to check in at TH (Tabung Haji) Hotel at 2:00PM, we drove up to Jelutong for breakfast at Nasi Kandar Deen, and afterwards we headed for Queensbay waterfront.

Queensbay waterfront, the weather was cloudy and it rained heavily later in the afternoon on the 1st day. Still, the view of the ocean, the island was breathtaking.

Killing time at the waterfront. Pulau Jerejak in the backdrop.

Stumbled upon this at Lebuh Pantai, Georgetown while on the way to Fort Cornwallis.

Heading towards Medan Renong, Padang Kota Lama, stone's throw away from Fort Cornwallis.

Faree'ah enjoying the oceanside view.

Stayed for 2 nights at TH Hotel, Bayan Lepas. The room is quite spacious and clean. Value for money. Could improve on the wi-fi connection.

The hotel is quite far from the usual local attractions but we didn't mind driving here and there across the island.

Second day. A rather short tour to the Penang Aquarium in Batu Maung, it was school holiday period and the place was swarmed with school kids and teachers. Would have enjoyed more if it was non-school holidays period.

Our next destination was supposed to be the Penang War Museum, which was only few minutes drive from the Aquarium. But we cancelled the plan upon knowing how much it costs for the entrance fee. Maybe next time or maybe not?

During our last trip to Penang back in December 2014, on our way to Bukit Bendera, we got lost and ended up at the Botanical Garden. After getting directions from a local who went for her morning jog, we went straight to Bukit Bendera, Ayer Itam. But we never came back to explore the Botanical Garden on that last trip.

So this time around, we went to the botanical gardens with the intention of course and spent 3 hours exploring the area. And it was worth every second. We hiked through Taman Rekreasi Kuari where the lush green surrounding was astonishing, masha Allah.

Next, we continued our walk through the Botanic Garden itself. Click here for a map view of the area.

We took a short shuttle tour of the Botanic garden. The fare is RM3.00 per person if I'm not mistaken.

Aquatic garden, Penang Botanical Garden.

Formal garden, Penang Botanical Garden.

And to sum up with a family photo.

We went there in the afternoon so the weather was hot and humid. If you have time to spare and if gardens and trees are your thing, then do check this place out.

Soon after, we had lunch at the Waterfall Cafe located next to the Botanic Garden. But there was nothing much on the menu, only char koay teow was available. And nothing much I can say about the cafe.
